The name “Big 3” refers to the 8,000 acres of skiable terrain, which caters to all skill levels and their proximity to each other makes it easy to explore all three during your stay in Canmore, which is each resort offering a distinct vibe and unique features.

Banff Sunshine Village

Distance from Canmore: A short 25 minute drive

Banff Sunshine Village is renowned for its long ski season, made possible by its high elevation of 7,200 feet above sea level. The resort typically operates from November to May, offering one of the most extended seasons in North America. Skiers and snowboarders can explore 3,350 acres of terrain across three mountains: Lookout, Goat’s Eye, and Standish.

Lake Louise Ski Area

Distance from Canmore: 50 minute drive

Lake Louise Ski Resort is one of Canada’s most iconic ski destinations, offering 4,200 acres of skiable terrain and jaw-dropping views of the turquoise lake and surrounding glaciers. The resort is perfect for all levels, with beginner-friendly groomers on the front side and powder-filled back bowls for more advanced riders.

Mt. Norquay


Distance from Canmore: A quick 20-minute drive. 


Mt. Norquay is the closest ski reason to Canmore and a favourite among locals and families for its friendly atmosphere. While it may be the smallest of the Big 3, Norquay’s charm lies in its accessibility, affordability, and fun options!

  • Night skiing: The only resort in the Big 3 to offer night skiing regularly.
